Though writing these notes as a maker (albeit a maker of noise), I am and have been fan enough to know how true ir is – there really is no accounting for taste.

Being of the modernist bent, lots of what I like has some kinf of manifesto and/or mindset behind it. Still, however fun sundry bits of thought might be, I ‘m too much of the irrational and tautological view that one likes what one likes because one likes it. So aesthetics is its own bit of fun, and again with the no accounting.

Also having liked many fairly popular things.the critical notions of canon or genre and what’s the best that whoever has done, well, that all gets the same sidelong, irrational and tautological view. Some folks really hate when anyone says “It is what it is.” Any of those people should be warned, it’ll happen again. Right here: It is what it is.

I don’t mind others who have stalwart views on canon or genre or best of etc.

I just don’t happen to care or feel the intense relevance to anything I happen to like.

Much like that old troublemaker Marcel Duchamp said – There are three kinds of taste: Good, Bad and Indifferent. He (and I, lacking any need to be distinctive) looked to embrace the indifferent.

This is not to say I am some post Dada aesthetic Zen Master, blindly shooting the arrow to its target. But I do my best. Likewise, creating.

I make choices, I have habits and downright ruts I follow. Still with the likes of Duchamp and Cage in mind, I find room to wobble as if some living chance operation at work.

So it is with what I like and what I make.

I wobble along the same or similar lines of action to make something. I’m never sure how well my wobbles turn out, but hey.

Go figure.

KR Seward Somerset, Massachusetts

An aggregate of noises, voices & notions since 1982. A whole mess of tunes written. More recently eschewing classic song form, looking to raise a ruckus.
